Entities that enroll in the Registry of Interested Entities, will have access to a preliminary version of the Administrative Terms and Conditions, as of October 26th, as well as a preliminary version of the General Technical Specifications and HVDC Functional Technical Specifications.

(Santiago, October 5^th, 2020) The Kimal – Lo Aguirre HVDC transmission project, that will be the first direct-current (HVDC) system in Chile and will operate in parallel to the alternating-current (HVAC) 500 kV corridor Kimal-Cardones-Polpaico, constitutes an enabling factor to the decarbonization process and the goals for the country to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. At the same time, it represents a significant advance in the development of a secure and resilient power grid capable of coping with the potential impacts of climate change.

The initiative includes the development of a 1,500-kilometer bipolar direct-current transmission line with dedicated metallic return and two AC/DC converter stations, to be located in the vicinity of the existing Kimal and Lo Aguirre substations, connecting the north and center of the Chilean Electricity Grid, respectively.

The project was approved in the Transmission Expansion Decree N° 231/2019 for New Works, issued by the Ministry of Energy in September 2019, which was partially modified  in September 2020 by the Exempt Decree N° 163/2020 of the Ministry of Energy, instructing the Coordinator to immediately initiate the preparation of the tender terms and conditions, establishing a maximum period of 14 months for awarding the project.

In view of the above, the Coordinator has defined the following schedule for the Tender Process of the Kimal-Lo Aguirre HVDC Project, which may be updated according to the needs of the process. This schedule establishes that the process will start on October 26^th with the Registration of Interested Entities via the Coordinador’s web site.

Entities that enroll in the Registry of Interested Entities, will have access to a preliminary version of the Administrative Terms and Conditions, as of October 26^th, as well as a preliminary version of the General Technical Specifications and HVDC Functional Technical Specifications, both as of November 23^rd. Registered Entities may submit comments to these documents until December 31^st, 2020, which will not be binding upon the Coordinator and will not be subject to a questions and answers process such as the one that will be implemented once the Definitive Terms are published.

The Registration of Interested Entities is voluntary and does not constitute an obligation or requirement for Registration as Participant, which will be mandatory for those who present offers for the project.

The definitive schedule of the Tender Process will be published in the Definitive Tender Terms and Conditions on February 1^st, 2021.
